“In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular”

Welcome to March and the weekend. We went to cricket training last night but it was cancelled due to examinations at the school where it was to be held. Instead, we have been invited to the cricket club tonight for a buffet meal and a band - could be most interesting! Kids are free and it will be £7.50 each for Kym and I. Whilst on the subjects of costs, I thought you'd like to see a typical daily receipt from Tesco express which is our local store. I suspect that although now I have horror at how expensive a few items are (about $30AUD), in a few years time looking back at this journal we may well all be amused at how cheap living was in the "good old days" - and isn't that the marvel of modern economics - we need inflation to pretend we have growth.
Well, economics isn't my strong point - but mathematics certainly is, and I have been invited to interview for an advanced skills teacher position at Southend High School for Girls on Monday - wish me luck!

Hi Anthony. Lots of luck for the AST job today. Apologies for not keeping up the correspondence but a certain school in South Perth has been keeping my nose to the grind stone. We are all really thrilled you are enjoying your family sojourn to the UK; the bloggs are great and Lorena loves all the stories I pass on to her about your adventures.
Love to all, Janet x

Hello English.

How is that little island home of yours? Is it true that when the boys hit a six in cricket it either ends up in the Channel or the Irish Sea? Anyway, it can't be all that far to get the ball.

No wonder it's so expenive. They propably can't fit all that many beasties there at all. Especially with so many of you Australian beasties taking over their local habitat.

Anway, please don't let your nose and ears go brittle out in the cold. Bump into something, they shatter and then they are gone for good. There will be nothing left to hang your sunglasses on when you come home. How funny will that look?

Your ever concerned brother, brother-in-law and uncle. Geoffrey.

Go Blues.

Hi Anthony!
Are you finding that the food prices are more stable than here e.g. the way that drought and flood influences what we pay for food? Have you found your way around enough to determine that the 'eating out' options are
comparable with here, do you have a
couple of favourite places?
Good luck with your opportunities and decisions. Love to all, Cushla xxxx

Hi Janet - good to see you back, look out for an email with details of my day out at the local Grammar School.
Hi Geoff - no English people can hit a cricket ball into both seas, but the boys have been doing it regularly since we have arrived - they are driving me poor buying new cricket balls to replace the ones they send to King Neptune - say hello to your lad for us!
Hi Cushla - prices have been fairly stable, and I do keep a lookout for Sainsbury's regular 2-for-1 deals. We don't eat out much, only when we leave the Wickford area. We have tried quite a few pub meals, but are yet to settle on a favourite haunt.
Cheers all from the UK,
Ant and family.
