Saturday we had a lovely day at Brand's Hatch to witness a practice session of the British superbikes. The bikes were very fast, loud and entertaining and the lovely weather made it a wonderful experience. The race track is only 30 minutes from Wickford and set in beautiful countryside (see picture). This outing gave us a chance to view an English seasonal spectacle, a field of blue bells on the forest floor.

This week marks my resignation from King's College London. It is a bitter sweet experience as I have enjoyed my time at King's and hope to find a position that will enable me to work in the nexus of both academia and industry.

Having made the decision to head home has initiated a flurry of activity. The air tickets have been booked and the modus operandi set for our return to Australia. Now starts the hard work of packing boxes and finishing our commitments in the UK including exams for the boys, Jackson finishing year 10 GCSE, and Mitchell finishing year 8 at The Bromfords School. Anthony will complete teaching for the 2007-08 school year at New Hall and I must give 12 weeks notice so I will finish at King's in late July.

We are looking forward to returning to family and friends and our house in Leeming. There are many reasons for our imminent return including helping to support Mum and Dad and settle Jackson into term 4 of year 10 at Leeming High so that he is ready for the start of year 11 in January 2009, and Mitchell will have term 4 in 2008 to orientate himself with his new class mates in time for year 10 in January 2009. As Mitchell has not yet attended Leeming High School, this is another new school for him. We also hope to reaquaint ourselves with our cat Monty who is currently looked after by our neighbours and in time we would love to get a couple of puppies.

My mother's day was excellent. I was treated to breakfast in bed and lavished with many presents including clothing, books and music. I drove Mitchell to cricket and whilst giving parental support spent time sunning myself at Wickford Cricket Club for almost 4 hours. We headed home after coming second in cricket and made rolls for lunch and the family set off for a very pleasant drive to Frinton-on-Sea for an afternoon of more cricket on the beach (complete with sand and tiny beach huts!) and a look at the town that seems to have remained locked in the 1950's and still has manually operated boom gates for the railway......interestingly the gates are locked at midnight so no-one can leave or enter the town till 6am, how quaint!
